January 2012

Last years lambs have all grown and some have been sold on.  We sold the twins belonging to Kelly to a special school in Bedale, where they are getting lots of tlc!  A couple of the tup lambs went to be grasscutters (an nicer alternative to the freezer!!) and we have kept Panda (the coloured boy) and Paul (the better of the white boys).  We also kept Princess, a white lamb which we showed and got plenty of rosettes from.

The pet lamb gang has gone home to Northumberland and I am assured they are doing just fine.

Tupping began again in September 2011.  Our tups this year are:

Sproxton Panda - the coloured boy which from which we had a 3rd place at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate.

He will be spending time with Squiggle & Squirm, a couple of coloured ewes I bought in from Northumberland last year.

Cagedale Luke (on loan).  Luke spent time with our ladies last year.  He will be living with Kelly, Kidget, Nelly, Nancy, Lexi & Lucy.

He produced some lovely lambs last year so we have high hopes!

We have already had coloured marks from the raddle on the rams' harnesses and indications are that we will be lambing around 4th-20th February 2012- just in time for half term.We now have a new viewing shed next to the pig enclosure so 'watching' it all happen will be much easier this year!

NEW ADDITIONS IN THE CHICKEN PEN

We have also had some more additions to the chicken pen - two silver spangled hamburgs and two crested golden legbar (watch for the surprise in your egg box - these lay blue eggs!!):

February 2012 -

Lambing update!  Nothing to report - checked every hour on hour in the night, still six very fat ewes and no babies as yet.  Think they just like the extra food they get when they are in lamb!

6th February - 10am - Squiggle almost definately in labour, lots of huffing and puffing!

Here he is, only a few minutes old!
