You can find out about the local attractions, events, etc by clicking the 'Around Sproxton' link at the top of this page, but we thought you might like to know about the things guests have told us they enjoyed:

Making friends/having a picnic with the animals and bottle feeding the lambs in Spring:

Unwinding on the picnic area with a drink, taking in the panoramic views, and generally doing as little as possible!

Sproxton-Helmsley walk - why not take a two and a half mile stroll via the 'scenic' route which takes you through the countryside on part of the Ebor Way, past the fish farm and into Helmsley to sample the local pubs, cafe bars and restaurants.  Alternatively, why not try some the award winning Ryeburn ice-cream which can be found in the ice-cream parlour at the entrance to the long stay car park (opposite the church). Then, if you're feeling energetic take the same route back or pick up the bus outside 'The Feathers' on the Market Place, to bring you back to Sproxton. This is a lovely walk but you will need good shoes in summer and possibly wellingtons or walking boots if the weather has been wet and the route is not suitable for pushchairs.

Sproxton-Oswaldkirk walk - why not take the two mile walk to Oswaldkirk and visit the 'Malt Shovel' pub where you will be met by a warm welcome and a lovely beer garden for drinks and bar meals.  Again, a lovely walk, good shoes needed and should not be atttempted in the dark!

Seaside - a little further afield, head for the coast, Sandsend and Ravenscar being our most favourite spots. Scour the beach for fossils before heading for refreshments at the tea room overlooking the sea at Sandsend.  Robin Hoods Bay is also a must with its cobbled streets, quaint shops, fantastic fish and chips and a pub with a fantastic view over the ocean. On the way back you may wish to stop at one of the following:

Cedar Barn Farmshop, Thornton-le-dale, where you can purchase excellent local produce or just stop to sample the tea room.

Pickering - a fantastic market town, famous for the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway.  The indoor flea market also a must, together with 'The Stop' which serves the most fantastic hot chocolate!

Beadlam Grange Farmshop, Beadlam, yet another lovely tea room together with local crafts and produce.

Gardens - If you are a keen gardener or just enjoy looking, why not try Helmsley Walled Garden, www.helmsleywalledgarden.org.uk  or the Lavendar Farm in Terrington www.yorkshirelavender.com  (Lavender scones in the tea room come highly recommended).

Eating out - Helmsley just over one mile away hosts a variety of excellent eateries.  Our guests have told us they enjoy 'The Feathers', 'The Royal Oak', Gepettos for Italian and Makins for excellent fish and chips.  Please also see the list of restaurants/take-aways recommended by our guests. Guests not wishing to drive use the services of an excellent local taxi firm.
